We are cousins who graduated from Smith College in the 1960s, in the midst of the Vietnam War. We live in different parts of Massachusetts now and are delighted to be traveling together to Vietnam. Our understanding of Vietnam's history and culture has grown by leaps and bounds as we prepared for our trip through reading. We hope family and friends will join us, virtually, as we take our trip!

Getting ready!
There are certainly lots of things to think about when preparing to travel: passport, contact information, packing light, electrical adapters etc., to say nothing about continuing to read! And we mustn't forget money for our destination, in this case Vietnamese dong. Pictured here are two bills totaling 700,000 dong, about $40 U. S. currency. The notes are very pretty. They have small transparent panels plus scenic pictures; on the reverse is an image of Ho Chi Minh, the revered leader who worked during the 1940s and '50s to establish a unified, communist Vietnam. Now, back to my pre-trip "to do" list!
